Halloween-inspired party cocktails
We all love Halloween. It’s the perfect excuse to dress up, act silly and sip on something deliciously deadly. If you’re gearing up for a fun Halloween night in Leicester, why not get everyone in the mood with a few suitably spooky cocktails in your student room?
And if you dare to venture out, be warned that Leicester has its fair share of ghastly goings-on. From ghostly dogs and the White Lady of Leicester Guildhall to a mischievous poltergeist and a hanged coachman haunting Belgrave Hall, the city is full of eerie tales — giving us perfect inspiration for our Halloween cocktails.
1. The Guildhall White Lady
The eerie white hue of this martini will cast a spooky spell over you, while the lychee eyeballs make a freakishly good garnish.
Ingredients
- 50ml vodka
- 10ml white vermouth
- Cocktail cherries
- Tin of lychees in syrup
- Raisins
How to make
First, make your eyeballs. Thread a cocktail cherry and a raisin onto a cocktail stick, then skewer a lychee so that the cherry/raisin combo rests in its hole. Pour the vodka and vermouth into a cocktail shaker filled with ice and add a generous splash of the lychee syrup. Shake vigorously, strain into a martini glass and garnish with two lychee eyeballs on sticks.
2. The Coachman's Corpse
Blue and red liqueurs combine to make a haunting purple potion, inspired by the pallor of Belgrave Hall’s ghostly coachman. Sip slowly!
Ingredients
- 75ml pomegranate juice
- 25ml vodka
- 25ml lime juice
- 15ml blue curaçao
- Grape popping candy
- Lemon
How to make
To decorate your glass, squeeze some lemon juice onto a plate and roll the rim of the glass in it. Then, press the rim into the popping candy and turn so the entire rim is covered. Pour the vodka, lime juice, blue curaçao and pomegranate juice into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake for 30 seconds and strain into your prepared glass.

3. Ectoplasm Spasm
This ghastly green brew is the perfect colour for Halloween, and it’s devilishly easy to make too.
Ingredients
- 50ml Midori ( a bright green melon liquor that’s great in a variety of cocktails. You can get it from Amazon if your local supermarket doesn’t have it.)
- 50ml Cointreau or Triple Sec
- 30ml lemon juice
- Gummy worm sweets
How to make
Add ice to a cocktail shaker and then the liquid ingredients. Shake vigorously and pour into a chilled glass. Hang a few gummy worms over the rim for a disgustingly good garnish.
4. Belgrave Hall Bloody Mary
A classic cocktail at any time of the year, this is especially good at Halloween. Plus, with all the veggie ingredients, it could be part of your five a day too!
Ingredients
- 250ml good-quality chilled tomato juice
- 50ml chilled vodka
- A teaspoon of sherry (optional)
- ¼ teaspoon horseradish sauce
- Dash of Tabasco
- Dash of Worcestershire sauce
- Sprinkle of celery salt
- Wedge of lemon
- Stick of celery
How to make
Mix together the tomato juice, Tabasco, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish and celery salt in a jug filled with ice. Squeeze in the lemon wedge. Pour the vodka and sherry into a glass, stir and then strain the tomato juice mixture into the glass. Season with black pepper and taste, adding more spice if you think it needs it. Garnish with a lemon slice and the stick of celery.

5. Vampire's Kiss
This mocktail looks dark and decadent but packs an invigorating hit that’s perfect if you don’t drink alcohol.
Ingredients
- Cranberry juice
- Blood orange juice
- A lemon Soda water
- Squeezy red food colouring - to decorate
- Icing sugar
How to make
To decorate your glass, mix the food colouring with icing sugar to make a thick paste. Drip the rim of your glass into the mixture and let it drip down a little so that it resembles blood. Leave to dry. In a jug, mix equal parts cranberry and blood orange juice and pour into your prepared glass. Top with soda water to make a sparkling spritz.
